Carrow Works, Bracondale, Norwich NR1 2DD.
Arpenteur and Fuel Properties acquire the former Colman’s Mustard and Robinsons drink site in Norwich.
The deal with Unilever and Britvic will deliver a residential-led, mixed-use development at Carrow Works. The proposals form part of Norwich City Council’s wider aspiration to revitalise the area and the redevelopment of Carrow Works is expected to deliver in excess of 2,000 homes and 1,500 jobs together with 250,000 sq ft of commercial/employment space and brand new leisure facilities.
Carrow Works was a factory complex, the earliest part of which was built in 1850’s by the Colman family and has been in continuous use since. Robinsons squash was produced from this site since 1925. The success of the Robinsons and Colman’s business had a major impact on the City as a whole and its physical development promoting significant growth outside the confines of the city walls. The factories closed earlier this year, with the last remaining employees leaving the site in May.
The site lies 0.9 miles (1.45 km) to the south-east of the city centre and extends to approximately 41.7 acres (16.9 hectares). The site can be characterized into two distinct areas. The main part of the site comprises the manufacturing area constructed over the past 160 years, which is wrapped around the inner historic core area. The site adjoins the River Wensum, with prominent river frontage along its northern edge. Arpenteur and Fuel Properties acquire the former Colman’s Mustard and Robinsons drink site in Norwich.
